The ISEQ index of Irish shares was down 53.78 points to 5,935.50 by midday today, despite some impressive gains.
None of these were to be found in the financial sector however. Allied Irish Bank lost almost 2%, falling 24c to €12.71. Irish Life & Permanent was down 11c to €11.27, with Anglo Irish Bank slipping 4c to €7.69.
