The stock market fightback from the UK’s biggest companies gathered pace today amid growing expectations of interest rate cuts from the US Federal Reserve tonight.

The FTSE 100 Index – which fell almost 4% to its lowest level for two years yesterday – bounced back more than 3% after a strong opening on Wall Street.
