Debenhams buoyed by strong Christmas

A strong Christmas and New Year came to the rescue of Debenhams today after the department store chain reported better-than-expected trading figures.

Like-for-like sales rose 2.2% in the four weeks to January 5, helping the company offset poor market conditions experienced in the autumn. Across an 18-week period to January 5, like-for-like sales were flat.
