Quinn appointed ESB chairman
Minister for Energy Eamon Ryan has today announced that the Government has approved the appointment of Lochlann Quinn as the new chairman of ESB.
His will enjoy a five-year tenure, commencing on January 22, 2008.
"I am very pleased that Lochlann Quinn will be bringing his unparalleled experience in the business and energy world to the board of the ESB," said Ryan.
"The energy sector is now entering a period of dramatic change around the world. National economies and individual companies will have to respond quickly and effectively to the environmental, security of supply and competitive challenges in the energy area.
"This presents us and the ESB with great opportunities as well as challenges. I believe the ESB can continue to be one of the best electricity utilities in the world by providing the energy solutions that will be needed in this new era.
"I have no doubt that Lochlann will continue the good work of Tadhg O'Donoghue and lead the board and staff of ESB through this changing energy environment.
"His proven track record of leadership at the highest levels of Irish industry and his experience in the energy area in particular should be of real benefit to the company, which will have a key role in delivering Government policy objectives in the energy area."
Biographical details Lochlann Quinn is a former chairman and director of Allied Irish Banks.
He was deputy chairman of Glen Dimplex. Mr Quinn is a member of the board of Smurfit Graduate School at UCD and chairman of the National Gallery of Ireland.
