Tesco toothbrush bottom of class

A pair of Tesco electric toothbrushes came bottom of a British product performance test, Which? said today.

The £4 (€5.60) brushes feature in the “don’t buy” section of the consumer group’s monthly magazine under the headline: “You’d be better off leaving these on the shelf”.

Tesco’s own-brand daily care two-way action brush got the lowest score of all 17 electric toothbrushes tested by Which? at 36 out of 100.

The supermarket’s extra care vibra-tech electric brush was second from bottom with a 39% score.

Colgate’s actibrush priced at £6 (€8.30) fared little better with a 40% score and was the third brush included in the Which? magazine “don’t buy” section.

Both the Tesco models have fixed heads which meant the entire brush needed replacing when the bristles are worn out.

“Although these may look like real bargains when compared with our top three best buys, other mid-table performers will help you clean your teeth better for under a tenner,” Which? magazine said.

The consumer group’s researchers named Oral B’s Triumph 9900 priced at £140 (€195) its top-rated electric toothbrush with an 82% score.
