Northern Rock shares take further hit

Shares in Northern Rock took a fresh battering today as investors bailed out of the crisis-hit mortgage lender.

The Newcastle-based group followed its 21% fall on Monday by slumping 40% to a low of just 60p at one point today – valuing the company at just over £250m (€349m).
