Martin leads delegation to Egypt
Minister For Enterprise, Trade and Employment Micheál Martin today leads a delegation of Irish companies to Egypt to boost business links between both countries.
It is hoped the three-day visit will open up new markets for Irish firms in North Africa and the Middle East.
Minister Martin will meet his counterpart in the Arab republic as well as the country's telecommunications minister during the trip.
"Irish companies increased their sales in Egypt by an impressive 26% last year," he said.
"This growth can accelerate further over the next few years as Egypt offers significant market potential for Irish companies, particularly in software development, financial services, construction, education and public sector/utilities."
Some 18 firms will be on the Enterprise Ireland-organised mission to forge connections with potential new trading partners.
"The calibre of Irish companies taking part in this mission demonstrates that Ireland is a world-class supplier of goods and services and an attractive trading partner offering competitive, high quality and technologically advanced solutions," said Minister Martin.
Conor Fahy, Enterprise Ireland's regional director for the Middle East, said there were many opportunities for Irish companies to expand their business in Egypt.
"This mission will enable Irish companies to meet with their existing and new Egyptian customers and partners, and develop new contacts, to explore opportunities for doing business together and hopefully boost Irish exports to this emerging market," he said.
