Oil prices surged to new highs yesterday as storm clouds over the Gulf of Mexico led to a cut in production in the key oil refining region.

Oil prices surged to new highs yesterday as storm clouds over the Gulf of Mexico led to a cut in production in the key oil refining region.

The cost of light, sweet crude hit a high of US$84 a barrel at one point before easing back to just over US$81 a barrel today.
