Ladbrokes buoyed by high-rollers

A surge in bets from high-spending customers today prompted bookmaker Ladbrokes to forecast bumper profits from its telephone arm.

The group said operating profits at the division were likely to be around £45 million higher in the six months to June 30, up from £16.3m (€24m) previously.
