Pension figures suggest construction sector buoyant

The number of building workers contributing to the industry pension scheme in Ireland has increased by over 17% to 94,000 over the last 12 months.

Assets in the Construction Workers’ Pension Scheme (CWPS) have passed the €1bn mark.

"The figures suggest no slowdown in the construction sector," said Oliver Haslette, Chairman, CWPS Trustees Ltd.

"It is sometimes overlooked in discussing the sector that there is a major infrastructural development programme in progress so even if residential house completions decline from previous record levels, the construction sector remains buoyant as reflected in these results."
