Airport handles 1.4 million passengers in month
More than 1.4 million passengers travelled through Dublin Airport in January, it was revealed today.
New figures showed that an extra 11% of holidaymakers passed through the airport compared to the same month last year.
Dublin Airport Authority said a record number of passengers flew to and from North America, with 78,000 travellers pushing the figure up 3%.
Passenger traffic to and from continental Europe rose by 25%, with over 680,000 taking to the skies, while UK traffic remained relatively unchanged compared to January 2006, with 615,000 people travelling.
Over 57,000 passengers took domestic flights within the state, 8% up on last year.
Trips to the Middle-East (Dubai and Bahrain), northern Africa (Morocco, Agadir) and South Africa also rose by 65% with more than 20,000 passengers travelling.
