WH Smith overcomes fall in high-street sales
British retailer WH Smith said today it was on track to deliver profits in line with expectations, despite a 6% fall in like-for-like sales in the past 20 weeks.
The group said like-for-like sales at its high-street division declined by 8% in the seven-week Christmas trading period, while the figure was 9% lower for the 20 weeks to January 20.
