Record Christmas for Tesco

Supermarket giant Tesco said today it experienced a record Christmas after like-for-like sales in the UK increased by 5.9% over the festive period.

The six-week figure, which strips out the impact of changes in store space, was stronger than the growth rate of 5.6% reported by Tesco in the autumn. It was also at the top end of most City expectations.
