One third of dial-up internet users in Ireland have failed in their attempts to switch over to broadband, according to the latest figures from the communications regulator ComReg.

The failure rate was highest in Connacht and Ulster, where 42% per cent of those trying to get high-speed connections have not succeeded.

The figures show that even parts of Dublin have broadband blackspots.

The consumer group Ireland Offline says it is concerned that Irish companies will be at a disadvantage as a result of the situation, with most other European countries having better broadband coverage.
