It was a rollercoaster day of trading on the Irish Stock Exchange today, but the ISEQ index finished up 86.71 points to 8630.86 after the dust settled.

The contrasting fortunes were reflected in the financial sector, with Allied Irish Bank doing well, shooting up 31c to €21.10. There were gains also for Anglo Irish Bank (up 8c to €14.35) and Bank of Ireland (up 5c to €15.60). Irish Life & Permanent did not fare as well, slipping 12c to €18.88.
