Irish companies seek trade with Canada
A group of cross border trade delegates today began a four day-mission to Canada.
Representatives from more than 30 companies are this week forging links between the country and the north and south of Ireland.
The mission is led byMicheál Martin and Northern Minister Maria Eagle, who will both be keynote speakers at a function hosted by the Ireland-Canada Chamber of Commerce in Toronto.
The event has been organised to assist Irish companies in winning new business and developing strong relationships in Canada.
“Ireland and Canada share a focus on developing the knowledge-intensive sectors of our economies and both invest heavily in education, science and research and development,” said Minister Martin.
“These similarities position us as ideal trading partners and present opportunities for synergies and increased trade.
“The Canadian market presents significant opportunities for Irish companies, particularly in knowledge-intensive sectors such as financial services, biotechnology, photonics, digital media and information communications and technology.
“The potential exists to substantially increase trade between Ireland and Canada through the creation of strategic alliances and partnerships between companies from both countries.”
Mr Martin added that the trip will give Irish companies the opportunity to explore business development opportunities through investment, technology transfer, joint ventures, acquisitions and other forms of joint marketing and trade relationships.
Enterprise Ireland and Invest Northern Ireland have collaborated closely in preparation for the trade mission. A number of significant announcements are be made during the week.
