Survey finds consumers have more confidence in Irish food

Irish consumers have considerably more confidence in domestically-produced food, according to a survey commissioned by the farm body AgriAware.

Only one-fifth of respondents to the survey said they had confidence in fresh foods imported from outside the EU, mainly due to concerns about safety, traceability and the use of chemicals and additives.

In contrast, more than two-thirds said they were very confident about the standards of food produced in Ireland.

Elsewhere, just 20% of respondents said they believed restaurants were including adequate country-of-origin labelling on their menus and only 51% said they believed retail outlets were doing so.
