Small businesses in Ireland have to wait an average of 52 days to get paid, according to new statistics released by the Small Firms Association.

An EU directive introduced four years ago makes it compulsory to pay accounts within 30 days. However, the SFA said that almost a third of companies in Ireland find that 75% of their customers do not pay on time.
