The Government is announcing changes to employment law today, which will allow workers take more time out to act as carers.

The carer's leave entitlements are to be extended from 65 weeks to two years.

Minister for Labour Affairs Tony Killeen said the change is further recognition of the important role played by carers in our society.

He said it will now be possible for workers to make the temporary choice of becoming a carer without loss of employment.
