Labour promises consumer centres if elected
Labour says it will create local consumer centres if it gets into government.
The party says the move would allow consumers to be more vigilant.
Speaking at the party’s annual conference in Dublin, Cork councillor Ciaran Lynch said the current system where consumers have to go through the Director of Consumer Affairs in Dublin to seek redress is unacceptable.
“When a complaint is made, and clearly justified and the case brought by the Director of Consumer Affairs is successful, why can’t there be provision in our law where the court directs the fine to be paid as compensation to the injured party?” he asked.
