Annual inflation rises to 3% in January

Consumer prices in January, as measured by the Consumer Prcie Index (CPI), decreased by 0.3% in the month. This compares to a decrease of 0.8% in January of last year and, as a result, the annual rate of inflation increased to 3%, up from 2.5% in December.

The EU Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) fell by 0.5%, compared to a decrease of 1% in January 2005. The annual rate of inflation, as measured by the HICP, increased from 1.9% in December to 2.5% in January.
