IBEC: Leaving Cert maths should be less exam-focused
IBEC has called on the Government to change the Leaving Cert maths curriculum to make it less focused on final exams.
The employers' group said the exam system should include more project work to help students develop long-term analytical skills.
The comments follow figures from the State Exams Commission showing that, while grades had generally improved, the failure rate in higher level maths was also increasing
IBEC spokesperson Caroline Nash said this was a result of students focusing on subjects where they can get higher points.
