Dublin to get new TV channel

City Channel, a new television channel, today signed a contract with the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland (BCI), clearing the path for their launch in September.

The service will broadcast 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

It will provide information and entertainment specifically of interest to the Dublin area.

Programming will include lifestyle subjects such as motoring, property, local, government, Dublin culture, whats-on guide, shopping and travel, in addition to transport and weather updates.

The service will be carried on the NTL digital platform in Dublin and will form part of NTL’s digital standard television subscription package.

Broadcasting to 100,000 homes initially, this will give City Channel a potential audience of 400,000 individuals in an area stretching from Dundalk to Greystones.

Conor J Maguire, BCI Chairperson said: "We believe the proposed service is innovative and diverse and will appeal to various sections of the Dublin television audience which are not currently catered for."

City Channel will offer access to television for small and medium sized businesses all over the greater Dublin area, with tailored and local trader packages, as well as a number of sponsorship opportunities.
