Ryanair to appeal Dublin Airport decision

Ryanair have received leave from the High Court today to appeal a decision by the Commission for Aviation Regulation (CAR) to fully slot co-ordinate Dublin Airport.

Ryanair have claimed that this decision will make it impossible to add additional flights during peak periods.

“The CAR’s decision to fully slot co-ordinate Dublin Airport is just the latest in a litany of errors,” said Ryanair’s Head of Regulatory Affairs and Company Secretary, Jim Callaghan.

“It demonstrates that the CAR is completely out of touch with the problems in Dublin Airport and has again failed to force Aer Rianta/ Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) to improve their efficiency and properly manage the airport.

“By unnecessarily imposing full co-ordination the CAR is limiting the capacity of the airport, which will lead to less flights at peak periods and higher prices.

“We are confident that the High Court will overturn this decision as it is unnecessary and further limits the efficiency of the airport and deprives Irish consumers and visitors to Ireland of additional flights and lower fares.”

This is the second such decision that Ryanair has challenged.

The first related to a decision whereby the CAR allowed the DAA to charge Ryanair for a check-in desk service which the airline claims it does not use.
