JJB founder considers changing role

JJB Sports founder David Whelan is to review his role at the retailer after the Wigan football team he owns won promotion to the Premiership.

In an interview with the Sunday Telegraph, JJB’s executive chairman pledged to look at his workload amid concerns about the demands of heading a retail business and a top-flight football club.

One option under review could see Mr Whelan step down as JJB’s executive chairman and appoint a new non-executive chairman.

Such a move would enable the 68-year-old to delegate meetings with investors and analysts, but still stay involved in the high street business.
