Irish group acquires top London hotel

A private Irish investor group led by hotelier Michael McBride has acquired the Hempel Hotel in London.

The landmark property was inspired by renowned designer Anouska Hempel.

The group plans to make significant additional investment to the €50m already invested in the hotel since its establishment in 1997.

Hempel Hotel managing director Michael McBride is the former general manager of the Herbert Park Hotel, Dublin. He is a native of Gaoth Dobhair in Co Donegal.

"We are absolutely delighted to have taken on a stunning five star international property and intend to make this hotel the home from home for the discerning Irish traveller," Mr McBride said today.

The Hempel is located a short distance north of Hyde Park and close to Paddington mainline station.

The Hempel boasts 40 oversized individually designed luxury bedrooms and six apartments overlooking a Zen garden, as well as an oriental restaurant and a chic bar.

The hotel has featured in scenes from movies including Notting Hill.
