E-net announces four more broadband networks

Waterford City, Kilkenny, Carlow and Gweedore-Bunbeg in Co Donegal are the latest areas to get broadband.

E-net officially took control of the broadband networks, bringing the prospect of broadband services to homes and business in these areas.

The additional towns which are now “live” and ready for service via the e-net operated network are Waterford City, Kilkenny, Carlow and Gweedore-Bunbeg.

E-net is the Limerick-based company which holds the concession to manage, maintain and operate new broadband networks, called Metropolitan Area Networks (MANs), on behalf of the Government.

The MANs programme is in two phases: a first phase of 27 cities and towns is largely completed and cost over €70m and the second phase of 41 more towns is expected to cost €55m.

“This announcement is another significant step for the roll out of broadband and brings to 17 the number of MANs we are now managing. We have interest from the telecoms providers in all areas to avail of the networks”, said Michael Tiernan, Chief Executive of e-net.
