ISEQ down, Elan still slipping
The ISEQ was down 26.45 points mid-morning at 6345.17, as Elan continued to slide.
After yesterday’s disastrous news of the death of a patient who was being treated with Elan’s multiple sclerosis drug Tysabri, shares in the pharmaceutical fell 96c (14.8%) this morning to €5.53.
Kerry Group was down 45c (2.4%) at €18.00 at 10.30am. The food company announced group turnover of more than €4bn in preliminary results for the year ended December 31, 2004.
Irish Life and Permanent shed 25c (1.6%) to €15.10. Bank of Ireland was up 19c (1.5%) at €12.86. Former BoI CEO Maurice Keane retired from the bank’s court today.
Anglo Irish Bank was up 15c at €20.05 this morning, while the most-traded share, AIB was up 10c at €6.35.
FBD gained 20c to €20.50.
Building materials group CRH was up 4c at €21.19 on news of pre-tax profits topping €1bn for 2004.
Tesco was unchanged at €4.14. Guardian Newspapers chief executive Carolyn McCall has been appointed a non-executive director of the grocery giant.
