Investors took monthly inflation figures in their stride today as the FTSE 100 Index overcame an uncertain start to post modest gains.

Investors took monthly inflation figures in their stride today as the FTSE 100 Index overcame an uncertain start to post modest gains.

Positive results from energy group BG also helped the Footsie, which was at a two-and-a-half year high after reaching mid-morning 10.2 points stronger at 5052.
