Overhaul keeps Matalan on course

British discount retailer Matalan said today it had continued to reap the benefits of an overhaul despite difficult market conditions.

The company said an encouraging start to its autumn and winter season had continued through the key Christmas period, with same-store sales 5.3% higher in the 10 weeks to January 8.
