Oil prices fell today amid data showing that parts of the United States would have a warmer-than-normal start to the New Year.

The price of benchmark US light crude slipped nearly 3% in early trading on Wall Street – which opened today for the first time in 2005 – after US weather authorities said temperatures in the north eastern States would be above normal between January 8 and January 12.
