ISME has slammed the decision to approve a further 3.5% increase in electricity charges from January 1, 2005, saying that the latest rise will ultimately result in many small businesses closing or looking at alternative venues in cheaper locations in order to run their businesses, particularly those involved in traditional manufacturing.

ISME has slammed the decision to approve a further 3.5% increase in electricity charges from January 1, 2005, saying that the latest rise will ultimately result in many small businesses closing or looking at alternative venues in cheaper locations in order to run their businesses, particularly those involved in traditional manufacturing.

Chief executive Mark Fielding said: “The association recently warned of the impact of rising costs on small businesses in Ireland, in response to members’ concerns.
