Public sector leads way in good energy practice - SEI
The public sector is leading by example in the area of sustainable energy practice, according to Sustainable Energy Ireland (SEI).
Speaking in Dublin during Energy Awareness Week, David Taylor, SEI chief executive, said there has been very strong uptake of the €12.7m funding made available through SEI’s public sector investment programme to improve energy performance in non-commercial public sector buildings.
Under the programme, funding has been made available for Government departments, local authorities, the health sector, agencies and non-commercial state bodies to undertake studies, install features or establish energy management bureaus to lead to better energy use.
This week is Energy Awareness Week, which runs from September 19 to 25. Energy Awareness Week is co-ordinated by SEI and is the single most important platform for the promotion of energy efficiency in Ireland.
Sustainable Energy Ireland was established on May 1, 2002, as a statutory authority charged with promoting and assisting the development of sustainable energy.
Sustainable Energy Ireland is funded by the Government under the National Development Plan 2000-2006 with programmes part-financed by the European Union.
