SEI announces new energy initiative
Sustainable Energy Ireland (SEI) today announced a new sustainable energy initiative for industry.
The programme will promote a response to the competitiveness, security of supply and energy/environmental challenges facing industry as carbon abatement costs are integrated into energy prices.
Speaking at the announcement at the start of Energy Awareness Week 2004, David Taylor, CEO of SEI said: “In the short term, energy prices look set to hold at current levels, becoming more volatile in the medium term. As a result, security of supply cannot be taken for granted.
"Improved energy efficiency and greater recourse to renewable sources of energy can mitigate this risk. By securing the energy savings opportunities in industry, SEI’s new programme will contribute to the competitiveness of Irish industry, improve security of supply and help meet our Kyoto targets.”
Sustainable Energy Ireland was established as a statutory agency in May 2002 with a mission to promote and assist the development of sustainable energy. It is funded by the government through the National Development Plan with programmes part financed by the European Union.
