BA cancels another six flights
British Airways cancelled six flights today as the airline continued an investigation into how its staff shortage problem escalated last week.
Today’s axed flights – first announced last week – were return trips from Heathrow to New York, Brussels and Zurich.
Since aircraft technical problems and the staff shortage difficulties were first experienced last week, BA has had to cancel more than 100 flights, causing travel misery for thousands of passengers.
BA chief executive Rod Eddington and a number of his fellow directors helped out at Heathrow over the weekend.
There has been speculation that some top directors could lose their jobs over the staff shortage crisis.
The airline’s investigation is continuing and the results will go before the BA board which next meets on September 17.
It has already been announced that BA staff are to get free air tickets for enduring the stress of coping with last week’s travel chaos.
Customers affected by the chaos who apply for compensation will be dealt with on a “case-by-case basis”, BA said.
