A major new survey of licensed premises in Ireland shows that small local public houses remain the heart of the licensed trade, with more than half of public houses having sales of less than €200,000 a year.

"This survey puts paid to the misconception that the licensed trade in Ireland is dominated by a small number of 'superpubs' or by large pub chains,” said the Drinks Industry Group of Ireland (DIGI) chairman Richard Dunne.
