Wexford Fabrics to outsource manufacturing to cheaper locations

Wexford Fabrics has said it is to cease manufacturing at its plant in Wexford with the loss of 22 jobs.

The company plans to retain a sales and marketing base but is to oursource its manufacturing operations to countries such as Eastern Europe, where costs are substantially lower.

Recent currency fluctuations, which have affected exports, and high costs have put a strain on the company said Jim Keane, Managing Director.

He added that the company hopes to create some additional employment with its sales and marketing base with around four people retained to work here.

The company, which occupied the former Wexford Weaving plant, said it had built up strong relationships with other suppliers in the area but unfortunately could not compete against competition from Eastern Europe and China.
