Public sector employment up 4.9% to Q3 last year

There were 235,700 people employed in the Public Service sector, excluding the Health service, to September 2003 compared to a year previously.

This is an increase of 2,700 and is at odds with the Government's attempt to reduce the number of employees in the public sector.
