Big casino wins dent Stanley's profits
British betting firm Stanley Leisure has posted a 13% fall in first-half profit after some punters enjoyed big wins at its key Crockfords casino.
Stanley, which runs 41 casinos and over 600 betting shops, said today that profit before tax and goodwill fell to £21.5m (€31.1m) in the six months to October 26.
Betting turnover, including its shops in the Republic of Ireland, jumped 73% to £661m (€958m), with profits up 44% to £15.6m (€22.6m).
"We remain confident of an encouraging outcome for the full-year," the firm said today. Analysts expect Stanley to make a full year profit of £44m (€63.8m).
