The US dollar has strengthened against the euro and at 9.30am today was trading at $1.235, against last week's low of €1.29.
Last week, the euro began its descent after European Central Bank president Jean-Claude Trichet said that "brutal" exchange rate moves were "not welcome and not appropriate".
