UK firms pledge to recruit more disabled workers

Hundreds of British firms have pledged to double the number of disabled workers they recruit this year, a new report revealed today.

Remploy, the UK’s leading employer of disabled people, said 350 firms had signed up to its Double The Opportunities programme, ranging from leading stores to councils and police forces.

Chief executive Bob Warner said: “Most organisations already take their corporate social responsibilities seriously as far as race and gender go but they fall short when it comes to the huge untapped resource of disabled people.

“There are hundreds of thousands with a myriad of skills who want to work, and studies consistently show their commitment and ability is prized by their employers.”
