Esat BT has threatened to pull out of the residential telephone market in Ireland due to what it describes as anti-competitive practices in the industry.

Mr Bill Murphy, Esat BT chief executive, said Eircom was continuing to engage in anti-competitive practices and that ComReg needed stronger penalty powers to keep Eircom in line.
