BA to announce massive fall in profits

British Airways was today expected to announce a five-fold fall in profits as it struggled with higher fuel costs and staff disputes.

The airline could announce pre-tax profits of just £49m (€71m) for the three months to the end of September, down from £245m (€356m) during the same period of 2002, according to fund manager Gerrard.
