Shares in Wall Street surged in overnight trade, as investors welcomed news of a drop in the number of unemployment claimants and solid earnings from Yahoo!.
At the closing bell in New York, the Dow Jones was up 49.11 points,or .51%, at 9,680.01, and the broader Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 4.95 points ,or 0.48%, to 1,038.73.
