Consumer confidence hits the dollar

The US dollar is lower against an array of currencies after a report showed an unexpected plunge in US consumer confidence.

The Conference Board's consumer confidence index fell to 76.6 in July from 83.5 in June. It's the lowest level since March's 61.4.
