Footsie slips below 4000 mark

The benchmark FTSE 100 Index slipped back below the important 4000 mark today, despite spending much of the day in positive territory.

London’s leading shares rose as high as 4038.5 at lunchtime before ending the day down by 13.5 points at 3992.9.
