Low cost airline easyJet sank into the red today, reporting pre-tax losses of £48m (€68m) for the six months to March 31.

The budget carrier blamed the fact that Easter fell later this year, and the impact of the war in Iraq, on the industry for the first-half figure but insisted its low-cost model was proving “robust”.
