The Irish Hotels Federation has urged the Government to exempt hotels from the recent 1% VAT increase due to problems facing the tourism industry.

The Irish Hotels Federation has urged the Government to exempt hotels from the recent 1% VAT increase due to problems facing the tourism industry.

The federation said hotels and restaurants should not have to pay the increase until the end of 2004 due to a fall in the level of bookings from American tourists.
