The FTSE 100 Index is up 7.5 points at 3897.4 in a quiet day's trading where dealers have little corporate news to follow.

Shares were initially helped by a rise on US exchanges - last week saw Wall Street end on a high note with the Dow Jones Industrial Average closing nearly 150 points stronger on Friday night.
