United Airlines to lay off 2,700 flight attendants

United Airlines said it will lay off 2,700 flight attendants beginning Jan 31, citing decreased flight schedules.

This action will bring the total number of flight attendants on furlough to approximately 4,800, it said.

United said it will first offer voluntary packages to offset imposing involuntary layoffs.

UBS Warburg said Friday it still believes a bankruptcy filing may be likely this winter for UAL Corp.
