This action will bring the total number of flight attendants on furlough to approximately 4,800, it said.

United said it will first offer voluntary packages to offset imposing involuntary layoffs.

UBS Warburg said Friday it still believes a bankruptcy filing may be likely this winter for UAL Corp.
